The poker world is made up of many generous individuals who want to give back. Poker Gives was founded by Mike Sexton, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and Lisa Tenner in 2008 to support and encourage such opportunities.
The Poker Gives mission is to provide financial and humanitarian aid to mainstream charities through support from poker players and the poker industry. Our industry and our players have an opportunity to actually make a difference and to create a better world by providing a variety of social services to those in need. Poker Gives, "acts as a charitable vehicle to collect and redistribute donations from card rooms, fundraisers, poker players and special events."
Jan Fisher - "We believe our combined efforts will set new standards for charitable giving. Many poker players of all abilities and levels want to give to charity and don't know the best way to do so. Poker Gives will make it easy for them. All they have to do is go to the Donate button or send a check and the donation will be gathered and distributed to worthwhile charities."
Linda Johnson -"Poker players are a generous group. There are so many people in need. If professional poker players and card rooms would pledge just one percent of their winnings and/or annual profits, the poker community would help in a big way. Our goal at Poker Gives is to hold administrative costs to a minimum so that a maximum amount of money can get to the charities." None of the four founding members receive compensation.
